Itinerary

Day 1 – Morning arrival in Cuzco. Walking tour of the city and hike to the mysterious ancient Inca/Quechua Sacsayhuaman Fortress outside the city. (lunch, dinner)

Day 2 – Mountain bike through colorful mountain villages the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Hike to the Pisac Ruins, an ancient Inca citadel situated high above the valley floor at the entrance to the Sacred Valley and controlled a vital road linking the Inca Empire. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Days 3 through 6 – Hike the strenuous Classic Inca Trail from Piscacucho to Machu Picchu and explore this magnificent Lost City of the Incas. Then hike up the steep trail to Huayna Picchu for breathtaking views overlooking Machu Picchu and the valley below. This once-in-a-lifetime hike finishes with a relaxing soak in the hot springs at Aguas Calientes and a spectacular train ride back to Cuzco. (breakfast, lunch, dinner all days)

Day 7 – Free day in Cuzco to explore this archaeological capital of the Americas. (breakfast)

Day 8 – Scenic flight to the Amazon Basin and ride a dugout canoe on the headwaters of the Amazon River. Wildlife hikes under amazing jungle canopy. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 9 – Take a dugout canoe and hike to virgin rainforest to learn about the many medicinal plants found here and how the native tribes survive in this environment. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 10 – Cycle through the villages and farms of the Cuzco Valley. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 11 – Cycle from the La Raya divide down to Puno, considered the folkloric capital of Peru, as well as the gateway to Lake Titicaca,, and the capital of the most extensive high plateau on earth outside of Tibet, the Peruvian Altiplano. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 12 – Travel by boat on Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable freshwater lake to two islands to hike and visit local Quechua communities. Stay in a local Quechua home. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 13 – Sea kayak on Lake Titicaca and visit the Uros’ Tribe’s amazing floating islands made entirely of reeds.  (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 14 – Return by air to Lima and the end of the tour. (breakfast)

Day 2 – Scenic flight to the Amazon Basin and ride a dugout canoe on the headwaters of the Amazon River. Hike under amazing jungle canopy and see and hear howler monkeys and beautiful macaws. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 3 – Take a dugout canoe and hike to virgin rainforest to learn about the many medicinal plants found here and how the native tribes survive in this environment. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 4 – Free day in Cuzco to explore this archaeological capital of the Americas, considered by the Inca and Quechua peoples to be the center of the universe. The kids will love to see the llamas and alpacas that frequently roam the streets. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 5 – Travel to the Sacred Valley of the Incas to visit the town of Maras, known for its vast terraces of salt and hike down to the salt pans for fantastic views of the valley and the Urubamba River. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 6 – Take a scenic train ride up to Machu Picchu and explore this magnificent Lost City of the Incas. Then hike up the steep trail to Huayna Picchu for breathtaking views overlooking Machu Picchu and the valley below. The day’s activities end with a relaxing soak in the hot springs at Aguas Calientes. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 7 – Morning train ride to the colorful market city of Pisac and then hike to the Pisac Ruins, an ancient Inca citadel situated high above the valley floor at the entrance to the Sacred Valley and controlled a vital road linking the Inca Empire. Visit a valley farm where llamas, alpacas, and vicunas, the smallest members of the llama family, are raised. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 8 – Travel across the La Raya divide down to Puno, considered the folkloric capital of Peru, as well as the gateway to Lake Titicaca,, and the capital of the most extensive high plateau on earth outside of Tibet, the Peruvian Altiplano. This area is the center agriculture in the region and hundreds of llamas and alpacas graze along the way. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 9 – This morning you will paddle by sea kayak across Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable freshwater lake, to meet and visit with members of the Quechua community on one Amantini Island. Enjoy native hospitality as you are hosted in a local home. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 10 – Travel by boat to Taquile Island on Lake Titicaca. Hike up to an active, isolated village, reknowned for its colorful woolen cloth and spectacular views across the lake. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
