ITINERARY

Day 1 – Fly to Fresno and check in at our hotel in the afternoon.  At the welcome dinner you will meet your hiking guides and fellow adventurers and receive an orientation on the trip.  (dinner)

Day 2 – After breakfast on your own at the hotel, we drive about 2 ½ hours to our trailhead at 7,300 ft. elevation where we meet our horses and their guides as they load all of our gear onto the horses for the journey.   After the horses are packed we begin the 6 mile hike to beautiful Staniford Lake in the Ansel Adams Wilderness where we arrive about twilight for our first camp where our guides will begin preparing dinner and we fish, swim, and relax.  We spend this evening stargazing and talking around the campfire.    (lunch and dinner)

Day 3 – Today we hike a hard 11 miles as we go up the switchback trail that takes us over Post Peak Pass at 10,750 ft. elevation and into Yosemite National Park where we will camp at Lake 10K at 10, 005 ft. elevation.  From our camp we have a magnificent views of Isberg Peak – 10,996 ft. elev. , Long Mountain -  11,502 ft. elev., and Forester Peak at 12,057 ft. elev. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 4 – Today’s  11-mile downhill hike descends 2,500 ft. elevation through the drainage systems of the Merced and Tuolomne Rivers that drain the Park.  Tonight we camp at Merced Lake 7,300 ft. elev.   (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 5 – Today our westward 7 ½ mile hike with gradual ups and downs takes us toward the iconic Half Dome, which we will climb tomorrow, to our camp in the Sunrise Creek area - 7,200 ft. elev.  (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 6 – Our hike and climb up Half Dome today is very challenging, but rewarding.  Before sunrise this morning we start our 3 ¾ mile hike to the beginning of the Half Dome Trail.  From there, the distance to the top of the imposing granite dome is 2 ½ very tough miles. The Dome rises 4,800 feet above the Yosemite Valley floor.  To reach the top, we scramble up the first half of the route on the switchbacks that have been carved into the granite face.  Then we begin climbing a semi-permanent cable handrail system for the remaining 900 ft to the top - 8,836 ft. elev.  At the top of the Half Dome we are rewarded with spectacular views of the Park and the Yosemite backcountry.  After climbing back down we hike back to camp.  Before ending for the day we break camp and hike 3 more miles along the John Muir Trail to another campsite along Sunrise Creek  (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 7– Today we hike another 8 ½ miles along the John Muir Trail, passing through the remote, gorgeous High Sierra Loop area on our way to Lower Cathedral Lake – 9,288 ft. elevation, where we will camp for the night.  (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 8– After breakfast we break camp and hike the last 4 ½ miles to a trailhead in Tuolumne Meadows, the end of our great traverse across Yosemite.  From the trailhead we are driven down into Yosemite Valley which we have viewed for the last week on our trek through the high country.  We have a little time to do a bit of sightseeing before our drive back to our hotel in Fresno where we will have our farewell dinner and spend our last evening together.     (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
